Mobile gaming has transformed from casual entertainment to a serious competitive platform, with titles like PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends attracting millions of Polish players. This growing phenomenon is reshaping the esports landscape in our country, creating new opportunities for players, organizations, and fans alike.
The Mobile Gaming Explosion in Poland
According to recent statistics, Poland now has over 16 million mobile gamers, representing approximately 42% of the population. What's particularly interesting is the shift from casual gaming to competitive play on mobile devices.
This surge in popularity can be attributed to several factors:
- Accessibility: The barrier to entry for mobile gaming is significantly lower than PC or console gaming, requiring only a smartphone rather than expensive dedicated hardware.
- Improved Technology: Modern smartphones now have the processing power to run graphically impressive, complex games that rival their PC counterparts.
- Developer Investment: Major game developers are increasingly creating mobile-specific versions of popular titles with competitive features built in.
- Mobile-First Culture: Younger generations in Poland are more comfortable with mobile technology as their primary computing device.

Popular Mobile Esports Titles in Poland
Several mobile games have emerged as competitive staples in the Polish esports scene:
PUBG Mobile

The battle royale phenomenon has found massive success on mobile platforms, with an estimated 1.2 million Polish players. The game's competitive scene includes both amateur tournaments and professional leagues with substantial prize pools.
Polish team "Mobile Hunters" recently placed third in the European PUBG Mobile Championship, bringing home €75,000 in prize money and raising the profile of Polish mobile esports internationally.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

This MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) has gained significant traction, particularly among younger players. Its simplified mechanics compared to PC MOBAs make it more accessible while maintaining competitive depth.
The Polish Mobile Legends League now has over 64 registered teams competing in seasonal tournaments, with viewership numbers growing 215% year-over-year according to streaming analytics.
Call of Duty: Mobile

Bringing the iconic FPS franchise to mobile devices has created a thriving competitive scene. The game's various modes, from traditional multiplayer to battle royale, provide different competitive formats.
Several Polish organizations have formed dedicated CoD Mobile divisions, including established esports organizations previously focused only on PC titles.
Clash Royale

One of the pioneers of mobile esports, Clash Royale combines card collection elements with real-time strategy. Its short match duration makes it particularly suitable for competitive play on mobile devices.
Polish player "KronoS" reached the semifinals of the Clash Royale League World Finals in 2023, putting Polish mobile esports talent on the global map.
The Tournament Ecosystem
The mobile esports scene in Poland has developed a multi-tiered tournament structure that provides competitive opportunities for players at all skill levels:
Grassroots Competitions
Local tournaments organized through gaming cafes, community Discord servers, and social media groups provide entry points for new competitors. These events typically have modest prize pools (ranging from merchandise to small cash prizes) but serve as important community-building exercises and talent identification opportunities.
Regional Leagues
Mid-tier competitions organized by regional esports associations and sponsors operate with more formalized structures, including regular seasons and playoffs. Prize pools at this level typically range from 5,000-20,000 PLN, making them attractive to semi-professional teams and ambitious amateurs.
National Championships
The Polish Mobile Gaming Championship (PMGC) has emerged as the premier national competition, featuring qualifiers throughout the year leading to grand finals across multiple titles. The 2023 edition featured a combined prize pool of 350,000 PLN across all games, with substantial media coverage including broadcast on sports streaming platforms.
International Representation
Top Polish teams and players now regularly compete in European and global mobile esports events, representing both Polish organizations and international teams. These competitions offer the highest level of competition and visibility, with prize pools reaching millions of euros.

Challenges and Opportunities
While mobile esports in Poland is growing rapidly, it faces several challenges that need to be addressed for sustainable development:
Challenges
- Perception Gap: There remains a perception among some traditional esports enthusiasts that mobile gaming is less competitive or skillful than PC or console esports.
- Technical Limitations: Device disparities can create uneven competitive environments, with players using premium phones potentially having advantages in frame rates and touch response.
- Infrastructure Development: Dedicated venues and networks optimized for mobile competition are still being developed.
- Coaching Expertise: There's a shortage of experienced coaches specifically for mobile titles, as many come from PC gaming backgrounds without mobile-specific knowledge.
Opportunities
- Broader Demographic Reach: Mobile esports attracts a more diverse player base in terms of age, gender, and socioeconomic background compared to traditional esports.
- Sponsor Interest: Mobile phone manufacturers, telecom companies, and mobile service providers represent a largely untapped sponsorship market specifically interested in mobile gaming.
- Integration with Traditional Sports: Several Polish sports clubs have expressed interest in adding mobile esports divisions, seeing them as more accessible entry points to esports.
- Educational Pathways: The lower hardware requirements make mobile esports more feasible for implementation in school programs and educational initiatives.

May 3, 2024 at 16:22As a Mobile Legends player, I'm excited to see SKIRN Club launching a mobile division! The mobile scene definitely needs more structured training opportunities. Will the coaching approach be similar to PC games, or will there be mobile-specific methodologies?

May 3, 2024 at 17:15Hi Aleksandra! Great question. From what I understand, SKIRN is developing mobile-specific coaching methodologies that address the unique aspects of touch-screen controls, shorter match durations, and mobile-specific mechanics. They're bringing in coaches with experience in both traditional and mobile esports to create a comprehensive training approach. The mobile division will also have dedicated practice areas optimized for mobile gameplay rather than just adapting PC training methods.

May 3, 2024 at 18:37The stats about mobile gaming in Poland are eye-opening. I had no idea it was this big already! I still prefer PC gaming for competitive play, but I can see why mobile is growing so fast. The accessibility factor is huge - my younger siblings are all mobile gamers because they don't need expensive setups.

May 4, 2024 at 09:12I'm part of a PUBG Mobile team, and we're always looking for more tournament opportunities. Will SKIRN be organizing mobile tournaments that are open to non-members? And if so, when can we expect the first ones to happen?
